This Privacy Policy explains how BackDrop Studios LLC (“BackDrop Studios,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the Afterlane mobile application and related services (collectively, the “App” or “Afterlane”). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
01 Who we are
Afterlane is operated by BackDrop Studios LLC. The App is a community platform for car enthusiasts, offering vehicle garage profiles, a spot-discovery map, meet coordination with check-in, photo sharing, route and tour planning, and related features. 02 Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information, depending on how you use the App:
Information you provide
- Account information: your email address, username, display name, and password credentials, created through our authentication provider.
- Profile and garage content: profile details, biography, avatar and cover photos, and the vehicles you add — including make, model, year, modifications, specifications, and photos.
- Photos and user content: images you upload, captions, comments, tags, and any other content you submit to the feed, map, or meets.
- Meet and event data: meets you create or join, RSVPs, and check-in records.
- Communications: information you provide when you contact us for support or report content.
Information collected automatically
- Location data: with your permission, we collect device location to power core features such as nearby spot discovery, GPS-verified meet check-in, pinning photos to the map, and route planning. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings, though some features will not work without it.
- Usage and device information: app interactions, feature usage, device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and diagnostic or crash data, used to operate and improve the App.
Subscription and payment information
- Purchases: if you subscribe to Afterlane Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your full payment card details. We receive confirmation of your subscription status from Apple to enable paid features.
03 How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and provide the App's features.
- To display your profile, garage, photos, and meets to other users as you direct.
- To power location-based features such as the spot map, check-in, and tours.
- To send service-related notifications, including push notifications you have enabled.
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the App.
- To enforce our Terms of Service and moderate content, including detecting prohibited or unsafe activity.
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
04 How information is shared
With other users. Content you choose to make visible — your profile, garage, photos pinned to the map, and meets you host or attend — is shared with other users of the App according to the App's features and your settings. Please consider what you share, particularly location-tagged content.
With service providers. We use trusted third-party services to operate the App, including Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, cloud functions, and analytics) and Apple (subscriptions and push notification delivery). These providers process information on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy commitments.
For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of BackDrop Studios, our users, or the public.
Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
05 Third-party services
The App relies on services provided by Google (Firebase) and Apple. Your use of those services through the App is also subject to their respective privacy policies. We encourage you to review the Google Privacy Policy and the Apple Privacy Policy.
06 Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as security and fraud prevention.
07 Your choices and rights
You have control over your information:
- Access and update: you can review and edit your profile, garage, and content within the App.
- Location and notifications: you can enable or disable location access and push notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Account deletion: you may delete your account directly within the App, which removes your associated personal data as described above.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — such as the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, delete, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. 08 Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections and managed cloud infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
09 Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it. Use of the App may be subject to additional age requirements set out in our Terms of Service and the App Store age rating.
10 International users
Afterlane is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations, which may have different data-protection laws than your jurisdiction.
11 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
